Five Steps to Take in Florida Lemon Law Cases
Step 1: Don't be discouraged by information given to you by the dealer. Unless you have an attorney, many car dealers will not take you seriously. Also, many dealers do not know the law and your rights. We recommend engaging an experienced lawyer as early as possible when you discover that you were sold a lemon in Florida. Of course, in the Destin and Florida Panhandle area, contact us.
Step 2: Keep a copy of all documentation of your vehicle history, including purchase information, repair history and contracts, warranties, and any attempts to have your vehicle repaired.
Step 3: Take written notes of any problems and any conversations with dealers and repair personnel, including the names, dates, times, and a summary of specific discussions held by phone or face-to-face. If you have e-mail correspondence, print out copies.
Step 4: Regarding any technical service bulletins (TSB) for defects or recalls, you need to ask the technician to write the request on the repair order.
Step 5: Prepare a timeline that accounts for dates, times and durations of repairs. List how long the vehicle was out of service and the reason you took the vehicle in for repair. If you have secondary losses (i.e. you were on your way to work when the car broke down and you were unable to get to work that day), also document those.
